Hi,
I have just started working on a MacBook Pro and feel like I am learning to work on Windows in the reverse manner. Esp. with the windows close button, minimise and maximise buttons being on the left top corner instead of the right... !! This makes me realize how much embedded are we into Microsoft Windows!!
Whether we like it or not, it is a fact that the most dominant user desktop OS is windows. Hence i thought of sharing a few tips that I took some time to discover on this desktop. As I move along, I will also share my learnings on the iPhone development. But that would take a while. :)
For now:
1. To resize the window - for e.g. the browser window, even if you click on the green button on the left top, it seems to resize between two sizes but never expands and covers the whole landscape of the desktop. So, how do we re-size the window?
Take your mouse to the right bottom corner of the window where you see 3 lines diagonally. Hold you mouse on it and it helps resize the window! That was simple :) But not obvious.
2. If you want to create a screen lock equal to the ctrl+alt+del in windows, do this. Go to "System Preferences" on the doc or in Applications. Look for "Desktop and Screen Saver". Select a screen saver of your choice on the list on the left side, then, the important part is to click on the "Hot Corners"button on the left bottom., a "Activate Screen Corners" dialog pops up. On that select "Start Screen Saver" in any of the corners. Assume you select the right bottom one, it means when you drag your mouse to the right bottom of the screen, the screen saver is going to get activated. So, choose which corner drag you want to activate. Now test and it should help you lock the screen each time you drag your mouse in the selected direction!
3. You want to use a # sign instead of a £ sign that is part of the number 3 on the key board. A normal Shift + 3 will give you £. So, how do you do this?
From "System Preferences" again, go to "Language and Text". And select the U.S. Keyboard from "Input Sources".
4. There are no page up and page down buttons here. I think the up and down arrows on the right bottom are the only resort you have in the mac keyboard.
Hope this helps.
Note: any macbook user finds my stuff wrong and correct me, most welcome. There are all toddler steps that i am sharing...
